| Description | The Duke thinks the Duke of Brunswick's refusal of the supreme command is very unfortunate; he felt unable to accept it without the agreement of the King of Prussia. The Duke himself has received no instructions on how he should conduct the campaign, nor on his own position. He rebuts complaints by the Hanoverian and Hessian troops that he does not do them justice in his reports to the King, explaining that he only mentioned the troops who actually engaged with the enemy in the recent action. He maintains that to avoid any appearance of partiality towards the English troops he always favours the others when he can, but he goes on here to describe the shortcomings of the Hessians and Hanoverians. |
