Date7 October 1785
WriterYork and Albany, Frederick, Duke of
AddresseeBudé, Jacob de, General
DescriptionThe Duke thanks Budé for his letter. He has heard from Wangenheim in Lüneburg, who says that Prince Edward is spending too much and not applying himself enough to his studies. He advises Budé to suggest to the King that he write to Prince Edward saying he will not be able to enter the army until he has qualified for it through his studies. He gladly accepts Budé's offer of wine and sherry and asks him to order more. He will not be able to send a positive reply regarding the water closet until next spring. He has sent a letter to the King via Grenville, who left for England the previous day. He encloses another letter from Wangenheim, just received.
