Title | Letter [in French] from the Princess of Wales to Mrs. Clayton [GEO/ADD/28/111] forwarding letters from the physicians and Princess Amelia and reporting on the latter's improved health, reporting that she believes her daughter will agree to do 'what your freind [sic] [presumably Dr Freind] desires', which both the Prince and Princess of Wales desire her to do, commenting obliquely on the story of 'the rabbits', and reporting that she has a cold, and that she had promised Princess Amelia to go to the gallery; with transcription in French and English translation [GEO/ADD/28/010]. |
Date | n.d. [a later pencil note suggests the end of November or beginning of December 1726] |
Writer | Caroline, Princess of Wales (1683-1737) |
Addressee | Clayton, Charlotte, Mrs William |
Description | Princess Amelia is better and has no cough, although she does have some pain in swallowing. 'I am transported my dear freind [sic] to understand that your freind [sic] is as much an unbeliever as to the rabbits as I am.' [Mrs Clayton has added a note: 'an idle woman one Mary Toft pretended to be brought to bed of rabbits, & impos'd upon many people'.] |
Notes | The original letter is GEO/ADD/28/111. The French transcription and English translation are on two halves of GEO/ADD/28/010. Both documents bear the circled number '40', which shows the order in which the original letter was bound. The suggested date is taken from the reference to Mary Toft's story. |
