Title | Letter [in French] from the Princess of Wales to Mrs. Clayton [GEO/ADD/28/76], reporting that 'it was a false alarm the ministry gave us', promising to tell her about it when they meet, and assuring her of her affection and esteem; with transcription in French and English translation [RA GEO/ADD/28/045]. |
Date | 21 January [a later pencil note suggests '?1718'] |
Writer | Caroline, Princess of Wales (1683-1737) |
Addressee | Clayton, Charlotte, Mrs William |
Notes | The original letter is GEO/ADD/28/076. The French transcription and English translation are on two halves of GEO/ADD/28/045. Both documents bear the circled number '5', which shows the order in which the original letter was bound. The suggested date is presumably related to the period when 'the ministry' had suggested the King should choose the Prince of Wales's servants, etc. [see GEO/ADD/28/093; GEO/ADD/28/040, etc., for other references to this matter]. |
