The Prince argues that his service would not endanger the succession due to his many brothers, and that his involvement would be in the public interest. He states that he would not intefere with 'those stations of command which should be held by persons qualified thro' experience...' and regrets that while he is at a stage in life where others 'incline themselves to serious pursuits', he has been denied involvement in public affairs.
Endorsed 'Sketch of a letter drawn up by Lord Rawdon'.
