| Description | That according to Lieutenant [?] Cooper 'the Resolution Sloop under my command was found upon trial to be so crank that she would not bear proper Sail to be set upon her; I gave it as my opinion that it was owing to the additional Works that have been built upon her in order to make large accommodations for the several Gentlemen Passengers intended to embark in her, and proposed that she might be cut down to her original state...'

With copy deposition (in the same hand) of William Appleby, pilot of the Resolution dated 19 May 1772 at the Navy Office. That the vessel is crank but is likely to be seaworthy if the additions are taken away. This document may have been an enclosure to GEO/MAIN/1316. |
