| Description | The Duke writes offering his apartment at York House to General de Budé; he is distressed but not surprised by what the latter has told him about the Duke of Clarence. The proxy he gave his brother (Clarence) to vote on the Slave Trade in the House of Lords is no longer valid, he believes. He goes on to comment on the Duke of Richmond's 'infamous' conduct as Master-General of the Ordnance, and regrets that the Duke has not resigned. He himself would like this position, and recalls that James II held it when he was Duke of York. He considers that it should be held in conjunction with the command of the army. As for the Flanders campaign, he thinks it in a very bad state and has written to tell the King so. |
