Collection
George III: The Genius of the Mad King documentary
Reference
GEO/MAIN/3682
Title
Armée Navale (French Navy)
Date
1779-1880 [?]
Description
List of vessels (Vaiseuax) of the three squadrons - white, blue, and white and blue - with detail of the number of cannons and the commander of each vessel. In addition, there is another list with details of the frigates of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Division.
Notes
The date can be inferred by the fact that La Ville de Paris [first vessel of the blue squadron], originally a 90-gun vessel, appears here having 104 guns. The refitting occurred between 1780 and 1788. The document also shows [Comte] De Guichen as commander of this vessel - and he was, indeed, commander from 1778 to March 1881 when Comte de Grasse took over.
