| Description | Edward states that he arrived at Eglintons on the 5 July where he saw 25 horses, including a Stallion which was 'one of the finest horses I ever saw', and hounds. Afterwards he proceeded to [John Thomas] the Bishop of Salisbury's residence, and mentions seeing the Col[onel of the] Guard of the Wiltshire Militia, and Stonage [Stonehenge] which [William] Stukely [Stukeley] had described in his book ['Stonehenge: A Temple Restor'd to the British Druids', 1740]. He also references rowing, inspecting the Militia on the Downs, attending an assembly in Salisbury which 'abounds in beauties', breakfasting with the [3rd] D[uke] of Queensbury, dining with L[or]d Foakstone [Folkestone], and the countryside surrounding Wilton. Edward signs off that he is going to church at [Salisbury] Cathedral. |
