Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (1819-1861)
DescriptionThe letter states the Duke's sadness that he could not be with his son on his birthday [15 January], but that his 'greatest blessing and comfort' is the bond between William and his sister [Princess Sophia Matilda]. He also mentions that [Maria] Duchess [of Gloucester] had a recurrence of St, Anthony's Fire [inflamation of the skin].
The note from Princess Sophia explains that the accompanying letter was sent to Prince Albert, as he had asked for an example of [William Henry, Duke of Gloucester] her father's handwriting.
