Date20 September 1804
WriterDundas, 1st Baron
AddresseeClarence and St Andrews, William, Duke of
DescriptionDundas wants to assure the Duke and the Prince of Wales of his support of Lauderdale. The same support is given by the Duke of Leeds - who, however, was not able to qualify properly his List. Lord Blantyre is at Ipswich with Lord Paget whose attachment to Pitt [William] could influence Lord Blantyre's vote [in the by-election for the Scottish representative] in a way opposite the Duke's wish - against Lauderdale [James Maitland, 8th Earl of Lauderdale]. The Prince of Wales might, however, intervene in that.
Lord Saltoun [Lieutenant-General Alexander George Fraser, 16th Lord Saltoun] is with Dundas in the 42nd regiment and can be convinced to vote for Lauderdale.
