TitleLetter from the Duke of Clarence to Colonel John McMahon
Date12 March 1814
WriterClarence and St Andrews, William, Duke of
AddresseeMcMahon, John, Colonel
DescriptionThe British Troops have suffered severely [in the unsuccessful Siege of Bergen op Zoom]; the situation, however, is still quite not clear, and the Duke believes that neither Sir Thomas Graham [Commander of the British troops] is to blame or the discipline of the troops to be doubted.
He is still waiting for the ship to take him back to England: he is very anxious to go back home, but also very satisfied with what he accomplished on the Continent - and he paid the greatest attention to the family of Orange for their greatest kindness.
He encloses here a letter from the Pirnce of Orange [William I].
