TitleLetter from the Duke of Clarence to Sir William Knighton
Date4 July 1818
WriterClarence and St Andrews, William, Duke of
AddresseeKnighton, William, Sir; Secretary to the Prince Regent
DescriptionAfter returning from the Priory with Lady Pole [ Henrietta Goddard, wife of Sir Charles Pole?] the Duke found a note from Knighton announcing the arrival [in London] of Princess Adelaide [Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen]. The Duke will get to London as soon as possible in order to meet the Princess 'in whose person I am prejudiced as much as possible'.
Being possibly, this, the last letter he writes before getting married, the Duke wants the Prince Regent to know that he is infinitely grateful for the affection and kindness shown towards him, and considers him the best brother and master; he hopes the Prince Regent will still favour him and the future Duchess in the years to come.
