DEBUDE - Papers of General Jacob de Budé.
1 - Correspondence principally between General Jacob de Budé and George III and Queen Charlotte.
1 - Warrant from George III (per Robert Quame) to Prince William, appointing him a Knight of the Order of the Thistle.
2 - Dispensation from George III (per Robert Quame) for admitting Prince William to the Order of the Thistle by an investiture.

7 - Draft (blank) 'letter' from George III to an unidentified individual, instructing him to convey the relevant 'ensigns' [insignia?] of the Order of the Garter to Prince William, with a note of instructions for the sending of the letters [this and 0462] and the procedure and precedents re the sending of insignia.
8 - Letter from George III to Maj-Gen. Jacob de Budé reporting that he wished de Budé to accompany Prince William to Germany and identifying others similarly chosen.
9 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé acknowledging a letter sent from Stade and hoping to receive one later from Hanover, expressing pleasure that Budé's sea journey had gone well and the hope that Prince Frederick would improve, and commenting on the Queen's health.
10 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé expressing approval of Zimmerman's advice on Prince William's ailment, of the handling of the Prince's education and of de Budé's monetary arrangements,

15 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé expressing pleasure that Prince Frederick's journeys in Germany had gone well, asking for news of M. de Salgas's health, and reporting that M. de Cordon would not be returning to England that winter because of his wounded leg, although M. de Scarnafis had said he would return.
16 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé thanking him for his letter expressing pleasure at Prince Frederick's conduct and saying that he is sending Budé a very good likeness of (the late) Prince Octavius, who loved Budé and whose loss the King feels more and more.
17 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé saying that M. de Salgas has written to him with better news of his health.
18 - Letter wrapper and letter from Queen Charlotte to General Jacob de Budé on Lady Conyers dying of a broken heart, the forthcoming marriage of Miss Elizabeth Egerton to M. Saladin, and the advice Queen Charlotte has given to her brother to forbid Prince William to visit his house while he is away, or to take his daughter away with him.
19 - Draft letter from General Jacob de Budé to George III giving a critical report on the personality and conduct of Prince William, who has too good an opinion of himself and does not apply himself to his studies, although his masters declare themselves satisfied with him, but whose youth and immaturity give hope for improvement.
20 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé saying he is reluctant to send news to Prince Frederick by the ordinary post and will send an English courier, commenting on the severity of the present (political) crisis and adding the news that M. Saladin is to marry Miss Egerton.
21 - Draft letter from General Jacob de Budé to George III responding to his letter (0478), sympathising with the King in facing the present crisis and praising his moderation and perseverance.
22 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé on the political crisis, in which he has the support of the House of Lords and the public, on the public meeting at Westminster Hall next day which promises to end in fisticuffs, and on his own view that he must uphold the constitution by standing firm.
23 - Draft letter from General Jacob de Budé to George III acknowledging his letter of 13 February (0479), sympathising over the continuing crisis and expressing hope that the support given to the King by the House of Lords, the majority of the people and the ministry will overcome the opposition of a pernicious faction.
24 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé hoping that he will be able to send a better account of Prince William's conduct, expressing pleasure at Prince Frederick's sympathy over the King's present difficulties, and criticising the Prince of Wales's support for Charles Fox and the efforts of Colonel Lake to influence royal servants and others to vote for Fox's faction.

30 - Draft letter from General Jacob de Budé to Adolf Friedrich IV, Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, concerning the best way of breaking the news to King George III that Prince Charles (of Mecklenburg-Strelitz) was to marry Princess Charlotte of Hesse-Darmstadt.
31 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé in response to his letter of 1 October (0488), reporting that Prince William had written to him with a lame excuse for his unauthorised visits to Göttingen and Gandersheim, and that he had answered with a reproving letter, and adding that he was anxious about General Freytag's health and pleased with Prince Edward's progress.
32 - Draft letter from General Jacob de Budé to George III reporting that Prince William had decided to attend manoeuvres (at a camp near Göttingen) and had accepted an invitation to dine with the Abbess of Gandersheim without informing Budé or seeking the King's permission, despite Budé's remonstrances.
33 - Draft letter from General Jacob de Budé to George III regretting that he has been unable to send a more favorable report on Prince William.
34 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé in reply to his letter of 7 January (0490), expressing his displeasure at Prince William's conduct and his wish that General Wangenheim should treat Prince Edward gently but firmly because he is presumptuous.

36 - Draft letter by Capt. William Merrick for General Jacob de Budé to write to George III explaining that his health will not permit him to go to sea with Prince William and asking permission to retire from the Prince's service when they return to England from Hanover.
37 - Letter from George III to General Jacob de Budé instructing him to bring Prince William back to England, to pay all outstanding debts and to remain with the Prince in London until he goes to sea, and sending messages to Captain Merrick and Linsingen regarding their service.
38 - Draft letter from General Jacob de Budé to George III acknowledging receipt of the King's letter of 6 May (0494), promising to do as the King instructs and conveying Linsingen's gratitude for the King's approbation of his service.
