WriterClarence and St Andrews, William, Duke of
AddresseeFitzClarence, Sophia
DescriptionWilliam writes in answer to two letters from Sophia. He approves of the indoor inventory and of the idea of letting General Hawker [Samuel], Bowden, Weaver and Allen drawing their accounts, each one for their own department. William strongly disapproves, however, of Sophia's desire to go and live with him; he reminds her that all his daughters will leave him when they reach the age of 16; whereas, the boys must live with William, occasionally visiting their mother [Dorothea Jordan]. He explains how other acquaintances - Mr Knollis and Mr J.W. Daniell - are taking care of Sophia's brothers (Frederick and Augustus) until they reach the appropriate age. He sent, through [Sir John] Barton a message to Sophia's mother [Dorothea Jordan].
