The Duchess thanks her father for his affectionate letter and reports that the Duke is very distressed by his mother's death; she herself is now much occupied with caring for Trinette [Catherine, the Duke's 14-year-old daughter by his first wife], who is her constant companion. She is glad to hear that the King has appointed Lord Chesterfield as his Master of the Horse.
