| Description | Macpherson praises Payne, 'that your candid, ingenuous and good medium surrounds him [George, Prince of Wales] ready to convey equally the sterling of Fox- the light of Sher[ida]n, the genius of Lough[borough], the honesty of Pot[land}, &c'. He adds that a Mr Troward at No. 77 on Payne's street will show him a map 'worthy of [his] perusal'.
Encloses a letter (GEO/MAIN/38485-38486) from Sir John Macpherson to George, Prince of Wales, 18 July 1789, on his wish that the King and Queen, and 'the best and severist judges in the nation could see the genuine traits of the Prince of Wales's mind'. Macpherson suggests that the Prince's connections to the Opposition are a benefit to the King, as 'the asperities and resentments of Opposition are not now personal to the Sovereign. They are softened and disarmed by the native dispositions of the son'. Macpherson's discussion includes the motives of the Queen, stating that 'no glory no happiness in power can equal those which are before her in the union of her family'.
