| Description | Explaining the misconceptions arising from his letter of 2nd [?October]. While the Prince does not know the contents of the conversation between the Duke of York and the King [George III], he seeks to remind the Duke that no conditions or stipulations were made on the Prince's first coming into the army. That he did not call on the Duke to make representations to the King on his behalf: 'I should be the last Person to urge the disobedience of any commands you may have receiv'd, even though they shou'd militate against myself'. The Prince cannot recollect any conversation he had with the Duke concerning any conditions on him receiving his present appointment. That the King intends to put himself at the head of the army (should the enemy land) where does this leave the Prince? 'The Prince of Wales is the first, & only Subject, who, it wou'd appear, has not occupied a Place in the deliberations or the arrangements at this very eventful Crisis.' With notes on the military rank held by the Prince and the Duke of York since 1782.
