Admin History | In 1783, Charles Greenwood went into partnership with Richard Cox, and the banking firm Cox & Mair became Cox, Cox & Greenwood. In 1806 Charles Hammersley also became a partner and the company became Greenwood, Cox & Co., with Greenwood now controlling partner, while Cox's place had been taken by his grandson, Richard Henry Cox.. The firm also acted as Army Agents and as such were involved with the financial aspects of military matters eg. commissions, pay and regimental transfers. These papers indicate that Charles Greenwood was also financial adviser to Frederick, Duke of York, and he seems to have also acted in that capacity for other members of the Royal Family, whether in a personal capacity or in relation to military matters. |
