Collection | William Henry, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh |
Description | This series includes letters to, from, and concerning William Henry, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh. The majority of letters are sent from the Duke to his brother George III whilst travelling on the continent, but a large proportion of the later correspondence from the Duke is addressed to his nephew George, Prince of Wales (1762-1830). The correspondence includes: the Duke's secret marriage; references to his sisters Augusta, Duchess of Brunswick and Caroline Matilda, Queen of Denmark, especially whilst visiting them in their respective territories; the health of his mother, Augusta, Dowager Princess of Wales; the education of his children Prince William Frederick and Princess Sophia Matilda; George, Prince of Wales' relationship with Mrs Maria Fitzherbert; and very detailed accounts of the Duke's health. |
