DescriptionThe Duchess apologises for not communicating for so long but she had to escape to Lower Hungary after the Archduke Charles's [of Austria, Duke of Teschen] retreat from Italy at the time when the French occupied Vienna. She describes how she mananaged to survive when she escaped and how she has spent the past two years: she spent some time in the Italian Tirol at the court of the King of Bavaria. She obtained a passport in Vienna to return into Austrian Dominion. She is now living in Trieste safely - but she misses England and the people there.
