He, then, asks the Prince of Wales to convince Erskine [Thomas Erskine, 1st Baron Erskine], the King's attorney general, to defend a member of Prince William's crew, Thomas Gray, who has been accused of obstructing a Custom House Officer and will be trialed for his life at the Old Bayley [Bailey], even if he is innocent. As evidence of this Prince William gives details about the career of the accused.
