Collection | Correspondence of William IV |
Description | Mentioning a previous letter sent from Dominique where Prince William was giving the news of Mr Hope's request to quit the ship. As Captain, Prince William refused to sign this request. Mr Hope turned into a troublesome and disrespectful officer. He refers to his rheumatisms and the pain in his right thigh which started before reaching Grenada and did not allow him to visit the Island. [John] Fidge, Prince William's surgeon, however, was able to relieve the pain. About Schomberg's case: he has been under arrest for a few months and will need, therefore, to be tried soon. The trial will take place in Jamaica were there are enough ships, hence enough Captains, to execute a Court Martial. He is very pleased with Mr Hargood, second Lieutenant, who has replaced Schomberg. |
