Description | The Prince went with Captain Brown of HMS Amphion to Port Roy through Havannah where they could see the Spanish carrying out vast work. He then proceeded by himself towards America, arriving on the 2nd at Halifax. Meeting with Commodore Sawyer [Herbert] who was ready with his ship to sail for Quebec. Informing the King of the sad news that the Prince's surgeon, Fidge, for age and length of service, quit the ship. Having been a faithful subject, the Prince recommends him to the King, asking about the possibility of relocating him in a vacant position in Portsmouth - where Fidge is from. The day after Commodore Sawyer is sailing to Quebec with the fleet: the Leander, Ariadne, Resource, Pegasus and the Weazel Brigg. |
