Collection | Correspondence of William IV |
Description | Sir Taylor communicates to Lord Grey the King's thoughts on various political matters: Lord Londonderry's [Frederick William Robert Stewart, 4th Marquess of Londonderry] questions do not require a report from Lord Grey; the position of the King with regard to the Greek Treaty stays the same - he approves of the treaty with Greece, especially in light of the recent choice of the new soverign, Otho the Prince of Bavaria; approving of the choice of Sir John Byng as Governor of Londonderry; supporting the candidature of Lord Dalhouise [General George Ramsay, 9th Earl of Dalhousie] as Governor of Stirling Castle - analysing further the longstanding issue of the conflict between political and military career, and mentioning, as the examples, the cases of Sir George Anson and Sir Ronald Fergunson. He asks for Gordon's Memoranda of the Force in Ireland to be returned; he sends, on behalf of the King, a Memorandum of a man who writes from Spitafields.
