TitleLetter from George IV to [Dr John Robert] Hume
Date28 July 1824
WriterGeorge IV, King
AddresseeHume, John Robert, Dr
DescriptionExpressing concern about the health of the Duke of Wellington. The king had heard reports of the ill-health of the duke but he believed these to be exaggerated until he received an apology for the duke not being able to attend Windsor. This has occasioned the greatest possible state of anxiety in the king's mind. He therefore desires Dr Hume to to provide a 'full & true statement' of the duke's health - and every day until the doctor is able to declare him 'quite convalescent' which he hopes will be soon. The king urges Dr Hume to impress upon the duke the importance of paying 'the mst constant & unremitting attention, to his Constitution & Health'. The king wishes to receive a line at Carlton House from Dr Hume before 8 o'clock in the morning.
