Description | The King talks with disappointment about a change of sentiments in the House of Commons that forced him to form a ministry with ministers who have been in the opposition for 16 years. This led to the removal of Lord Sandwich [John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich] from the Board of Admiralty and the appointment of Admiral Keppel [Admiral Augustus Keppel, 1st Viscount Keppel] and some of his friends. The King is very unhappy about this situation but, on the other hand, very pleased with his children's behaviour. He urges William to respect the new Commander of the Troops who will be delivering this letter; also, William should not seek any information about the home affairs. In a post scriptum note the King asks William to show the letter to the Admiral and Mr Majendie so that they can advise him on how to deal with this delicate matter. |
