Collection | Additional papers relating to William IV and Queen Adelaide |
Admin History | This collection holds a miscellany of papers, mostly letters, with the exception of: a 'Jurisdiction of the Court of the King Palace; a small bound volume describing the last days of William IV; and a copybook of Prince William.
Most of the letters belong to the period before William became King in 1830, when he was still the Duke of Clarence, and some date before his marriage to Princess Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen in 1818. The last group of letters in the collection are written by Queen Adelaide to her friend Lady Ely (Anna Maria, Marchioness of Ely)
The collection contains groups of papers that relate to each other, interspersed by a few loose, unrelated documents. Within each group, papers have been arranged chronologically, and the groups themselves do proceed in chronological order.
Information about the provenance of the papers is added in the notes field, as documents were purchased, donated or transferred to the Royal Archives at different times. |
