Collection | Papers of Augustus, Duke of Sussex |
Admin History | Edward Livingston was appointed by George III as Governor to Prince Augustus in 1797, while the Prince was residing in Italy. Livingston was initially appointed to persuade Prince Augustus to change his style of living and to pay the debts he had accrued while living overseas, as well as to remove the Prince from Italy. Livingston ultimately accompanied the Prince to Germany and remained with him until 1799, very much against Prince Augustus's wishes. |
