Title | Letter [in French] from the Princess of Wales to Mrs. Clayton [GEO/ADD/28/116] reporting that Princess Amelia has not been able to swallow since yesterday and that after much dispute it had been decided that she might be blooded and have a blister applied if she had not improved by tomorrow, and that her daughter had chosen 'Emett' to carry out the [seton] operation; with transcription in French and English translation [GEO/ADD/28/018]. |
Date | n.d. [presumed to be before 1727] |
Writer | Caroline, Princess of Wales (1683-1737) |
Addressee | Clayton, Charlotte, Mrs William |
Description | 'Emett' had previously done the operation for the youngest Princesses. Princess Amelia appeared to be starting a fever, and complained of headache and back pain: 'these animals have propos'd a flannel shift to make her sweat upon which I dismissd [sic] them'. The Princess of Wales asks Mrs Clayton to inform 'your freind' [sic] [presumably Dr Freind] of her daughter's condition: 'I don't find her in immediate danger but I am very much afraid of the consequence'. |
Notes | The original letter is GEO/ADD/28/116. The French transcription and English translation are on two halves of GEO/ADD/28/018. Both documents bear the circled number '45', which shows the order in which the original letter was bound. |
