Title | Letter [in French] from the Princess of Wales to Mrs. Clayton [GEO/ADD/28/098], reporting that a certain [unspecified] 'affair' is settled and that Walpole will not be in the Treasury, and expressing a warning as regards 'our freind' [sic] [identified in a note as Mr Clayton], as 'He will be too able for Aislaby [sic]'; with transcription in French and English translation [GEO/ADD/28/058]. |
Date | n.d. [a later pencil note suggests '? Ap. 1720'] |
Writer | Caroline, Princess of Wales (1683-1737) |
Addressee | Clayton, Charlotte, Mrs William |
Notes | The original letter is RA GEO/ADD/28/098. The French transcription and English translation are on two halves of GEO/ADD/28/058. Both documents bear the circled number '27', which shows the order in which the original letter was bound. Mrs Clayton has added a note on GEO/ADD/28/058 to identify that 'our freind' refers to Mr Clayton. The proposed year date is presumably suggested because of the implied subject matter of the letter; a later pencil note on GEO/ADD/28/058 refers to the DNB entry for Walpole |
