Title | Letter from the Duke of Clarence to Samuel Hawker, written at Bushy House |
Date | [?1778] |
Writer | Clarence and St Andrews, William, Duke of |
Addressee | Hawker, Samuel, Lieutenant General |
Description | William discusses a few military issues concerning the Cold Bath Fields; the location of different regiments (William's troops; Troops of the Greys; the Dragon Guards and Light Dragoons). He agrees with William that £700,000 might have been improperly expended during the American War of Delancey [the reference here is to the De Lancey's Brigade Loyalist British provincial military unit, raised for service during the American War of Independence. Its commander was Brigadier General Oliver De Lancey] - he complains about the generally inefficient way in which money is used within the Army. Mrs Jordan joins William in sending their best. |
