Description | Lord Derby thanks Sir Bootle for having brought the good news that the King [George II] and the Duke [?] are safe and England won - although, Lord Derby recognizes it would be prudent to wait before declaring victory [this refers to the Battle of Dettingen, Bavaria, part of the War of the Austrian Succession, occurred on the 27th June (16 June, Old Style - see GEO/MAIN/54121): the British forces, in alliance with those of Hanover and Hesse, defeat a French army; King George II of Great Britain (and Elector of Brunswick) led his own troops, the last British king to do so]. He is very sorry to hear that Bootle is still unwell; but, hopefully will be soon well enough to assist Lord Derby with the Witherslack Tenants' case. |
