TitleLetter from James Cresset to Sir George Lee
Date[?5 July 1751]
WriterCresset, James
AddresseeLee, George, Sir (c.1700-1758), Treasurer to Augusta, Princess of Wales
DescriptionExplaining the meaning of the Commission the Princess of Wales has suggested Lee should set up [see GEO/MAIN/74108-74109]: this is a Commission for the good regulation of the Family. He is sending, enclosed, a copy of a document written by Sir Benjamin Bathurst, previous Treasurer to the Duke of Gloucester, The Prince and the Princess of Denmark, and others, in which he talks about setting up a similar commission for the family of the Duke of Gloucester. Cresset, then, refers to a point made by Lee in his last letter: Lee thinks only the Auditor should deal with the "overlooking accounts". Cresset, however, gives examples, from the past and other households, of other people being granted in doing that (e.g. a Commission, a Chancellor, etc), suggesting that this is a good way forward. He agrees, however, with Lee, about discussing the matter over before setting up the Commission.
