Title | Copy manuscript of "A concise and genuine account of the dispute between Mr. Hume and Mr. Rousseau: with the letters that passed between them during their controversy" |
Date | [?1766] |
Writer | Hume, David |
Description | Although this copy manuscript is not in the hand of David Hume, it does contain corrections and annotations in his hand. The text in this copy differs from the published version not least in including the text of the original French letters from Rousseau (rather than translations) and also footnotes that differ in tone and content to the published version e.g. frequent use of 'lye' in the manuscript version. It is not clear when this manuscript was received by George III but it is assumed that these papers were submitted to the King before publication in ?November 1766. |
