Description | The Prince writes that he declined an audience with the Lady Berkeley, but waited upon her accompanied by Mr Adam, after which she requested a statement from him concerning her marriage. The Prince writes that he recalls hearing of a private marriage between the Earl and Countess of Berkeley from Lord Fife, and having addressed Lord Berkeley on the subject. Lord Berkeley, after the second marriage, informed him of the deliberate concealment of the first and the destruction of register, and later asked him to protect his wife and children. Consequently, Lord Thurlow examined the case and agreed there was sufficient evidence to to out in the Court of Chancery |
