DescriptionCornwallis refers to the difficulty of removing the Chief Judge of Banares, Ali Ibrahim Khan, due to his 'great and truly respectable character', and states that even if the office was vacant, Mr. Treves would be unsuitable for the position due to his standing in the [East India] Company. On the Regency question, Cornwallis states that if he had been in the Country he would have voted with the Administration. He states that Tippoo has abandoned Coimbatore to General Medows, who has taken the fortress of Palacatcherry.
