DescriptionHippisley discusses his application to the Cardinal Secretary of State regarding reuqesting assistance from the Cardinal State to provide for the British Fleet expected at Leghorn; the Pope's condemnation of the 'seditious proceedings of the lower class of Catholics in Ireland'; the gratitude of [Pope Pius IV] regarding the support of the British to the French exiles, and extension of the rights of Catholics in Britain; and the permission given to [?Thomas] Erskine to visit Britain, and hopes for future intercourse between the Pope and Britain.
