Description | Translation from German of two letters written by Prince Charles of Hesse-Cassel in his own hand during his stay in Tönning on the Eider. Dated Louisenlund, 14 July 1803. That he will be delighted to see Diemar again. He will be going to Rendsburg after tomorrow and suggests meeting there. The evening and the following day, Sunday, their Royal Highnesses will be there to dine with the Prince Royal. The Prince Royal will also be pleased to see Diemar again and extends an invitation to dine at Court on Saturday and Sunday. They strongly wish for good news from England. The Hanoverian surrender has caused Prince Charles much heartache which he can hardly bring himself to write about but which they can discuss further in person. Relaying thanks to the English postal agent for his indulgence in having looked through the English papers. Dated Louisenlund, 26 July 1803. That he has written to Major-General Haxthausen sending him the contract for hay and straw and as soon as the response has been received, he will not hesitate in transmitting to Behrend Pohns. The Prince hesitates to give his written protection for British trade for fear of compromising himself and the State. He will write to Diemar as soon as possible about the arquebuse and gunpowder. Asking Diemar to thank the Commissioner in London for the engravings which have given him much pleasure. Wishing Diemar well on his journey to and stay in England. |
