| Description | Davis states he received word from the Earl of Macclesfield that George IV may replace his brother [as Lieutenant Yeoman of the Guard]. Davis requested the addressee to use their influence to prevent his replacement until a judgement had been passed regarding his brother's case in a court of law to avoid prejudice [John Henry Davies had been accused of forgery]. Davis also mentions the likelihood of [George] Coleman assuming his brother's position [George Coleman became Lieutenant Yeoman of the Guard on 13 May 1820], and threatened to go public with information if his brother's case was perjured or prejudiced.
[10 April 1824 the case of Davis vs the Governor of the Bank of England was tried at the Court of Common Pleas and the jury found in favour of the plaintiff, reaching a verdict that he had no knowledge of the fraud until three months after it had occured.] |
