DescriptionThis watchbook [RCIN 1198301a] for HMS Pegasus was given to William IV following his promotion to captain of the ship by his tutor Isaac Schomberg in December 1786. The book lists the names of the crew and their watch schedules. The book was later given by William to his eldest son, George Fitzclarence, 1st Duke of Munster. On a page listing ‘Idlers’ and boys, Munster annotated the names of five men who had later joined William’s household following his departure from the Navy in 1790.

Includes letter from 1st Duke of Munster to Queen Victoria, dated 7 April 1838, relating to presentation of watchbook [RCIN 1198301b-c]
