Description
William includes mention of L[or]d Algernon Percy going to England; an unfavourable account of Spa; meeting [Grand] Duke [Paul] and Duchess of Russia [Maria Feodorovna]; travelling to Berne, Geneva (where troops were stationed), Switzerland and Anspach; and that discussions had focused on the 'taking' of Gibraltar, which he hoped Lord Howe would prevent. He also writes concerning the death of Prince Alfred, stating that 'poor fellow for himself it is probably happier for many reasons' [Prince Alfred died after receiving the smallpox inoculation]; and enquires after Prince Frederick and Prince William.
