TitleLetter from William Henry [Duke of Gloucester] to George, Prince of Wales regarding his relations with [Maria] Duchess of Gloucester
Date22 June 1787
WriterWilliam Henry, Duke of Gloucester and Edinburgh (1743-1805)
AddresseeGeorge, Prince of Wales (1762-1830)
DescriptionWilliam mentions the Princes' recovery, and that he had sent a letter to George III regarding his children's education [GEO/MAIN/54383]. He states that he was seeking a lady [to chaperone Princess] Sophia [Matilda] to 'keep her clear of the Duchess', and that he wished to send [Prince] William [Frederick] to university. He explains that this was necessary because the Duchess speaks of the Duke to his children, and the 'whole world', in a 'gravely indecent' manner. However, he adds that if her behaviour improved she could remain in his house, and requests that the Prince refrain from discussing this letter with the Duchess [of Gloucester].
