Collection | Correspondence of William IV |
Description | The Duke has not written in a while because nothing worth reporting has happened. He is waiting for the arrival of Lord Howe. The Duke proceeds giving information about HMS Valiant as Admiral Barrington declared it fit for sail: everyone on the ship has been kept busy working everyday from 5am to 9pm; as no one on board, though, is either older than the Duke or has been as long at sea, he will be soon sent more men. The landsmen, on the other hand, are volunteers the Duke raised at Richmond, Roehampton, and in Cornwall. All officers behave perfectly. |
