| Description | During the night the Duke received an express from Lord Castlereagh giving the news that Lord William FitzRoy returned with the answers [to previous letters sent by the Duke] from the two Sovereigns [Emperor of Russia and King of Prussia] who have accepted to embark upon the HMS Impregnable with the Duke; the Emperor of Austria however, will not come [to England].
The Duke is very pleased with the Sovereigns' decision and feels enthusiastic and honoured and will do anything to make sure that they get the most proper welcome. To begin with, he asks McMahon to tell Bloomfield [Lieutenant General Benjamin Bloomfield] that, while going through France, the Emperor of Russia requires, at each stage, seventy pair of horses on the roads. |
