| Description | Prince William reassures his brother that the large sum of money he previously asked for, was intended for an officer in difficulty - although William himself struggles with his small allowance. Despite this, however, William is happy with his present life: he enjoyes the life in Portsmouth where he lives with Mr Martin's [Henry Martin, Commissioner of Portsmouth Dockyard] family; he is equally satisfied when he is at sea under Capt. Thornbrough's commands [Sir Edward Thornbrough]. Since he was refused the command of the HMS Phaeton by Lord Howe [Earl Richard Howe, Admiral of the Fleet], he now wishes to be Lord Hood''s [Samuel Hood, 1st Viscount Hood] Captain.
He hopes Prince William will visit him in Portsmouth. |
