Letter from Prince William to George III
Date
10 June 1787
Writer
William, Prince (1765-1837)

George III, King
Description
The Prince left the island of Nevis and sailed towards Jamaica on the Rattler. Once there he met with Commodore Alan Gardner to whom he delivered his narrative [of the Schomberg case] and Nelson's dispatches [on the same subject]. Gardner approved of Prince William's conduct in this situation but, before calling a Court Martial they needed to wait for the ships Europa and Amphion to return to the port with their respective Captains, Vashon and Brown. As per decision of the two Captains, Schomberg apologises to Prince William in their presence, after which Schomberg leaves the ship.
The following day he is sailing for America.
