Following a visit to the Rope Manufactory at Cherbourg accompanied by the Master Ropemaker, the Rear Admiral Maitland can make comparisons between the French and English mode of manufactoring rope. After having analysed in details the two methods, Maitland concludes that the French system of ropemaking should be followed.
