Title
Letter from Sir John Macdonald to Sir Herbert Taylor on the subject of corporal punishment in the army
Date
10 April 1833
Writer
Macdonald, John, Sir
Addressee
Herbert, Taylor, Sir
Description
On the question of regulating corporal punishment in the Army.
Reporting on having submitted the question to the Board [of Military Authorities in charge of taking a decision upon this matter] and about the outcome of that. Sir John thinks, however, that such an important decision should not be left to the opinion of so few people - he suggests the names of other authorities who should be able to contribute.
He further suggests the draft of a new regulation, which would take inspiration from the Duke of Wellington's opinion, to present to the King and the Government.
