| Description | Thanking her for her note and the good tiding of Elizabeth [her sister, Marchioness of Huntly]. He hopes that the tears Elizabeth shed may be attributed to'the suspicions she entertains respecting the poor little Baby' rather than to any 'uncomfortable debility or bodily weakness' and that therefore the pain of the sad truth will be greatly lessened when she is finally told. That he lives in 'constant terror' of being informed that 'Mater' [Elizabeth,Marchioness Conyngham] has completely exhausted herself and he will write to her on this subject presently. In the meantime he urges Lady Maria and her 'Pater' [General Sir Henry Conyngham, 1st Marquess Conyngham] to insist that she takes both food and rest otherwise she will bring on a fever or illness which will prevent her from giving attention to Elizabeth [her daughter, Marchioness of Huntly] as she intends and which may have other consequences occasioning 'dreadful Pain...upon all of Us, who do so truly love Her, from the very bottom of our Hearts & Souls'. He hopes that he shall presently seePeterwitz [?Prittwitz] whose arrival he is awaiting 'in the greatest possible state of impatience & anxiety'. He hopes that Lady Maria will write to him again in the course of the day or should she receive any news.
